Green Policy
Edgecumbe Consulting Group Ltd recognises that, as a company, our work may have a direct or indirect impact on the local, regional and global environment. We are committed to minimising our negative impacts and acting in a sustainable way, meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Waste reduction
We try to eliminate waste at source and some of the ways we do this are:

  • The use of electronic communications - unless our customers request otherwise, we send all our quotes, invoices and other communications via email. We accept electronic communication and payments. This saves on both paper and also carbon miles for postage;

  • All emails sent from Edgecumbe accounts have the statement “Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail” at the bottom of the email to encourage others not to use paper unnecessarily;

  • It is company policy that any document that needs to be printed is printed where possible in draft format to use as little ink as possible;

  • Multiple page documents are printed double sided to save paper;

  • We reuse paper where possible – we bind all our redundant headed paper to use as office notebooks rather than simply disposing or recycling the paper.

  Recycling
We recycle whenever possible.

  • At the end of its practical life, any hardware is cleared of information and passed to the local Byteback office, or equivalent, to be refurbished or used as parts;

  • Any paper and thin cardboard that cannot be reused is recycled;

  • Printer toners are recycled;

  • All tin cans, plastic and food waste (including tea bags) are recycled;

  • Recycled paper and paper products are used throughout the office.

  Purchasing

  • To help the local economy and to reduce carbon miles, we try to purchase goods and services locally wherever possible;

  • We purchase fair-trade tea, coffee and sugar.

  Travel
We have made a commitment to make our travel as green as possible:

  • We use audio conferencing for some in-house meetings to reduce our travel;

  • The majority of Bristol-based staff either walk or cycle to work. Edgecumbe provides a secure cycle store;

  • Although we enjoy meeting our clients face-to-face, this is not always necessary and therefore when practical we use audio conferencing for meetings between Edgecumbe staff and clients;

  • When travel is required, members of staff use public transport in the form of buses or trains whenever possible;

  • Wherever possible the carbon offset option is purchased when booking flights.

  Energy

  • We use long life light bulbs wherever possible and all radiators are thermostatically controlled;

  • All staff are committed to the reduction of energy wastage and ensure lights, all electrical items (including computers) are turned off and thermostats are turned down when not needed.

  Water

  • Water use is minimised wherever possible including only using the dishwasher when it is full;

  • All taps are turned off when not in use.
